I'm not just a House Wife

I love everything about my hectic, not so perfect life and I am absolutely not just a house wife. I couldn't be just one thing. I'm an artist. I have to be a million things to please the right side of my brain. Want a look? Not into my brain. You'd get lost and run the other direction.

I started my "business" after my son was born. All of my other children were in school and cleaning the same thing everyday just isn't my forte. I threw out the idea of a sewing business to the universe and the universe slapped me in the face with more work then I knew what to do with. Blessed is what I call it.

My Projects.

I reupholstered this cute little chair for a client. One of my first paid upholstery gigs. I loved how amazing a little new fabric could give new life of this chair. And how perfectly it went with the Bow Pillow i had just made for another customer. Those Bow Pillows were the bees knees for a little while.

These lovelies were dreamt up by my client. She picked the fabric and the ribbon edge. She dropped off the chair, fabric and ribbon and asked my to make some chair covers. Pleats were a must especially with the to die for decor she has in her house. Simple just would not do. Creative freedom is when I feel I do my best work and to have clients who trust me with my creativity is such a blessing.

A couple of years ago my mom and sister were devastated by a house fire. They lost everything. It was the saddest experience of my life. All we could do was sit across the street and watch. Everything went up in flames and quickly. My sister moved in with us temporarily. When temporarily lasted longer then temporary we decided to move her into a room in our house. She's an honor student, a cheerleader, and the best teen anyone could ask for and she deserved this more than anything. She helped me make this room her own. Here's what we did
-Painted the furniture black with pink accents. Even the sides of the drawers are pink!
-Made a custom rug to fit her decor (I'll be posting a DIY tutorial later. I'm boycotting rug stores after I found out how easy and customizable making your own rug is)
-Took an old chandelier we found at a garage sale and put a new coat of pink paint on it, strung black crystals on the bottom and hung it.
-Refurbished an old trunk I found on a garage sale sight. Painted it black and added a padded fabric top
-Made accent pillows to match the custom duvet cover (it isn't visible in the picture)
She was one lucky duck to get to use some of my Marilyn Monroe collection. I've killed people for less (I've never killed anyone-for the record)

Can I just say that I absolutely love doing upholstery jobs! It is my therapy. Pulling something apart and putting it back together all the pieces. On this gem I also painted the wood with Madame Butterfly Chalk Paint. The wood at a shiny finish on it and I just painted right over the top of it. Boom! Done. My client wanted a clean look so there was no distressing. I sealed it with a clear poly and called it a day.

You'll soon find out I have a lot of obsessions. Tufting is another one. One little lucky girl got a room makeover. I made a tutu bedskirt, ruffle cornices, a full length tufted headboard and an adorable flower box for her window. She is one pretty in pink 4 year old.

These are just a few of the projects I have done over the last few years. I have enjoyed most of them and have learned from all of them. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. If you would like to see more of my work please head over to my Facebook page Madame Butterfly Creations.
