I got these chairs from a friend and you know you have to say YES when the conversation starts with "do you want these or they're going to Goodwill". Of course I want them! I knew I had a little work on my hands. They looked like they came from a sticky fingers kid home. I had to put a little elbow grease in getting them clean but for free it was worth it.
The seats cushions were no longer good which is an easy fix. New foam and fabric. Done.
This time I tried something a little different. I wanted the best of both worlds- chippy and distressed.
My first coat was with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint for the chippy part. I'd never tried this before so I crossed my fingers. Of course I forgot to take a complete Before picture. This is with one coat of the milk paint. You can see on the corner of one of the chairs it was already started to flake. I LOVE that about milk paint.
I then did two coats of Madame Butterfly Chalk Paint over the top of the milk paint. I stepped away while it was drying and I came back to exactly what I wanted. The milk paint was still letting it flake from under the chalk paint. Just a little here and there.
I put a put a putty knife and sand paper to work and did some fancy magic. And this is what happened....
Easy peasy lemon squeezy. I really enjoyed my adventure into mixing milk paint and chalk paint in layers. I would do it again. I'd love to try it with two different colors next time.
